Hosting offline version on a separate server? |
|||||
Question "We would like to host our PDF and offline versions on a separate server to reduce bandwidth use. Is this possible, and how can we do this?"
Solution This is possible, although you won’t be able to use the ‘Download’ feature from the sidebar. Instead you will need to create either a hotspot or web-link button that will link to the location of these files. Your readers could click these buttons to download a copy of the publication for personal use.
In order to do this, please follow these steps: 1. Create/Open your publication in 3D Issue. 2. Switch to the ‘Output’ tab. 3. On the left, expand the ‘Offline’ section. 4. From the drop-down menu select either ‘PDF edition’, ‘Offline edition’ or ‘Both’. 5. If you selected the PDF option you will have to navigate to the location where the PDF is stored on your computer. 6. Select ‘Build’, a pop-up should come up. Select ‘No’, otherwise it’ll add a download link to your sidebar. 7. Once build is complete, select the ‘Open Folder’ option. 8. Open the folder labelled ‘offline’. 9. Select the contents of this folder and upload it to your external hosting solution. Keep a copy of the URLs linking to these files. 10. Go back to ‘Design’ mode, insert hotspot or weblink button that will link to the download location. Rebuild publication again and upload this time.
Note ensure that the download feature is turned off, otherwise the reader will download files from your local server. |
